Ayan Mukherji directed Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani on its 1st Wednesday collected a superb sum of 11 crores, as per early estimates. The film’s total income now rests at 98.11 crores, shying away from the 100 crore mark by 2 crores which the film will cross by first half today!
But the Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer could have thrashed Salman Khan’s record of the speediest 100 crores, it eventually did not. Salman’s 2012 Diwali release Ek Tha Tiger and December release Dabangg 2 both had recorded the fastest 100 crore reach in Bollywood.
However, to its credit, the film has had a stupendous performance at the box office with no public holiday to aide it. As popular Bollywood celeb Milap Zaveri tweeted, “The most noteworthy achievement of #yehjawaanihaideewani is that it hasn’t had a single extra public holiday to boost its collections!”
YJHD will definitely surpass the 100 crore mark by today, and then eye for greater success on the economic plains for itself. Since the film so closely competed with Dabangg 2, one can actually expect it to eye the Salman starrer’s total collections as a benchmark for its own. Though highly doubtful, but we’ll have to wait and watch whether YJHD reached the 200 crore mark as well.
