Aamir Khan starrer PK started off on a good note. The film which released on a normal Friday made a business of 26.63 crores which is slightly higher than 2014’s Highest Grosser – Salman Khan’s Kick which opened with 26 crores at the domestic box office.
PK having opened with good footfalls at the multiplexes scored higher over Kick thanks to higher ticket rates too. PK now holds the record of Highest Non-Holiday Opener of 2014 and 2nd Highest Non-Holiday Opener after Dhoom 3.
The year’s other releases such as Happy New Year remains to be the Highest Holiday Opener of the year, with a massive collection of 44.97 crores. Hrithik Roshan’s Bang Bang and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Returns too being holiday releases scored more than PK.
Other films such as Holiday, 2 States, Ek Villain, which made it to the 100 crore club this year were average openers with collections ranging in 11 to 15 crores. Thus, PK with its wider screen count has kicked off well to become the year’s highest non-holiday opener of the year.
