Obsession was hell-bent on making history at the box office, and it has finally succeeded. The movie has surpassed Elemental as the biggest original movie at the worldwide box office post-COVID. The movie has ended its run at the box office in North America, but it is still running in overseas markets. The film has yet to be released in South Korea, which will further boost its worldwide box office total. Owing to the film’s success, the filmmaker Curry Barker has already moved on to his next horror film, Anything but Ghosts. According to reports, Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, and Violet McGraw will play key roles in the upcoming movie.

Obsession crosses $500 million milestone worldwide

Obsession collected $17.2 million on its opening weekend at the box office in North America. It started gaining momentum later in release and eventually became the highest-grossing horror movie of the year, collecting $263.4 million at the domestic box office. According to Box Office Mojo‘s data, the Curry Barker movie has hit the $238.2 million cume this weekend, taking the worldwide box office past the $500 million milestone.

It reportedly includes $29.7 million from China and $26.7 million from the United Kingdom, with South Korea still left to join them. The worldwide total of the Curry Barker movie is $501.66 million. It still has enough juice to earn some more winning numbers at the box office.

According to reports, Obsession has surpassed Elemental’s global haul to become the top-grossing original movie post-COVID. The Pixar movie collected $494.6 million at the worldwide box office, a record that has been beaten by Obsession as the biggest original hit post-COVID. It is also the first original film in the 2020s to enter the $500 million club worldwide. Made on a $750k-$1 million budget, the film is a blockbuster that remains popular in international markets. It was released in May this year and is also available online.
