Nayanthara is all set to arrive in theaters this Diwali with her sequel drama, Mookuthi Amman 2. Despite it being a crowded weekend at the box office, Nayanthara is braving the storm with her fantasy comedy film. The film is a sequel to Mookuthi Amman, which was released on JioHotstar back in 2020. While the first part of the film was directed by RJ Balaji, the second part has been helmed by Sundar C.
Mookuthi Amman 2 is facing tough competition at the box office from Suriya’s Scene and Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana: Part 1, which is already basking in glowing reviews. Suriya’s Scene also stars Nazriya Nazim and Naslen. The latter’s film is expected to dominate the Kollywood box office.
Mookuthi Amman 2 Advance Collection
Nayanthara’s film is seeing a slow advance collection compared to Scene. With one day remaining for its release, the film has collected over 1 crore for its opening day. The film has earned 1.26 crore in India, with 82,925 tickets booked. The film has opened in 1,869 shows across 664 theaters. While the numbers are low for a film starring Nayanthara, it will need positive word of mouth to perform well at the box office.

Mookuthi Amman 2 Surpasses Hi’s Opening-Day Collection
Mookuthi Amman 2 marks Nayanthara‘s fifth release of the year and her second Tamil film. Her previous release was titled Hi, a breezy romantic drama. The film earned just 1.25 crore on its opening day in India. Mookuthi Amman 2 has surpassed that with just its advance collections, with one day left for release.
Meanwhile, Nayanthara’s other 2026 releases have had stellar box-office collections. She started the year with Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, followed it with the Malayalam movie Patriot, then Toxic and Hi.

The film follows the story of a queen who sacrifices herself to save her son, the prince, from invading enemies. Mookuthi Amman returns to save the child and confronts a mysterious woman who represents a new evil power.
