From Dev Anand’s CID To Raj Kapoor’s Chori Chori – Top Bollywood Box Office Grossers Of 1956

1956 was not a great year for Bollywood in terms of Box Office collections. Only 3 films managed to touch the 1 crore mark which wasn’t something really big even at that time.

Still stars like Dev Anand, Ashok Kumar & Kishore Kumar managed to keep the industry afloat. Dev Anand in the year 1956 managed to give the industry two major grossers i.e. CID & Funtoosh. In fact, CID was the top grosser of that year.

Ashok Kumar along with Sunil Dutt did Ek Hi Raasta which was the 2nd highest grosser of that year. Then a film titled Bhai Bhai with Kishore Kumar also did decently well. His solo film Inspector was the 10th highest grosser of 1956.

Kishore Kumar also enjoyed two major grossers in 1956 with films like New Delhi and Bhai Bhai.

Raj Kapoor’s Chori Chori was 3rd highest grosser of the year, Bharat Bhushan’s Basant Bahar stood next to it with a little difference. Rajendra Kumar’s Toofan Aur Diya was 8th highest grosser of the year.
