Coyote vs. Acme North America Box Office: Shelved By Warner Bros, Rescued By Ketchup, Now Its Biggest-Ever Hit With Opening Week Over $20 Million

The success story of the latest Hollywood release Coyote vs. Acme is one for the books. The latest Looney Tunes movie has completed a week at the box office and is the most successful film of its distributor Ketchup Entertainment in North America. The film received positive reviews upon its delayed release and is set to cross many more milestones.

In its first week, the film held steady in the domestic top 5. It was released alongside The Dog Stars in North America. The movie opened with a strong $15.9 million in domestic box office collections.

Coyote vs. Acme Earns Over $20 Million In Opening Week

The live-action animated hybrid film Coyote vs. Acme benefited from strong word of mouth. On Thursday, the film earned $1.3 million, which was a 12.9% drop from its Wednesday collection. The film’s collection is more than Hugh Jackman’s The Sheep Detectives, which earned $1.1 million on its first Thursday.

Becomes Ketchup Entertainment’s Biggest Hit

The Looney Tunes movie was initially shelved by Warner Bros. The film got a new life when Ketchup Entertainment later purchased it. According to reports, Warner Bros. spent $70 million on production costs. Therefore, based on the industry’s 2.5x multiplier rule, Coyote vs. Acme must earn around $175 million at the box office to break even.

Meanwhile, Ketchup acquired the rights for $50 million. Therefore, to break even, it must earn around $125 million. Overall, the film has to earn between $125 million and $180 million to break even for both and roll over into profitable territory.

The film follows Wile E. Coyote as he finally fights back after decades of disastrous ACME mishaps. Teaming up with billboard accident lawyer Kevin Avery, he takes on slick corporate counsel Buddy Crane and ACME, Inc., the profit-obsessed conglomerate behind his chaotic catastrophes.

Directed by Dave Green, Coyote vs. Acme, starring Will Forte, Lana Condor, Tone Bell, Luis Guzmán, Martha Kelly, P. J. Byrne, Kenneth Choi, and John Cena, was released on August 28.
