Last year, we saw a high-voltage box office drama between Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar. However, this wasn’t a direct clash as SRK’s film arrived a day earlier. Now, this year, a much bigger competition is going to be unleashed as Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again are locking horns on the same day. Both are big films, so expect fireworks at the Indian box office. Keep reading to know more!
The benefit of the franchise factor
The cult of Singham started in 2011 when the first film was released. It was a huge box office success and ended up hitting a century at the Indian box office. It was not just a commercial success, but the biggie also went on to become an iconic film of Ajay Devgn, and there’s no need to describe how popular the titular character became.
Singham Returns arrived in 2014, and though it received mixed reviews, it turned out to be a big success due to the goodwill of the first part. Now, for Singham Again, this franchise factor will again come into play, thus inflating the box office potential.

On the other side, even Allu Arjun‘s Pushpa 2 will have the same advantage. Released amid COVID-19 rules, the first Pushpa film was released in 2021. It was a good commercial success, with the Hindi numbers leaving everyone’s jaw dropped. Just like Singham, Pushpa’s character has also become a cult, so expect a guaranteed blast.
Biggest opening day on the cards?
As of now, the record for the biggest opening day at the Indian box office is with SS Rajamouli’s RRR. For those who don’t know, the magnum opus had registered a staggering day 1 of 134 crores net at the Indian box office. In the second position, it’s again the SS Rajamouli directorial in the form of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’s 121 crores net.
Pushpa 2 and Singham Again have a strong chance of registering the highest-ever opening day collection on a cumulative basis. From the Hindi and Telugu market alone, the Pushpa sequel might rake in around 100 crores net at the Indian box office. On the other hand, the Singham threequel has a chance of going well above 40 crores net on day 1. Combining both, RRR’s 134 crores look in danger. Don’t be surprised if the number even touches the 150 crore milestone.
