With the perfect actor-director combination of star cast like Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma & Karan Johar and director Anurag Kashyap to a decent music, a lot is riding on Bombay Velvet. Given the fact that the film is a crucial one for the leading man Ranbir after two consecutive flops Besharam and Roy. The two angles which we draw on the trade perspective is; Bombay Velvet set in the 60s, being a period crime drama will get mass audience or Anurag Kashyap’s niche audience? And will the film manage to take over Piku at the Box office? Here is what the trade experts have to say –
Ashok Ahuja (Ashok Ahuja Consultant sales distribution & IPR management. Ishka films & Mangalmurti films)
Bombay Velvet will take a decent opening in the multiplexes and average in the mass centric pockets on Day 1. Thereafter it will improve depending on the word of mouth. The weekend business of Bombay Velvet will be more than Piku. All said and done Piku will rock in the 2nd week at the box office.
Akshaye Rathi ( Exhibitor)
With a cast like that, aggressive promotions and being the solo Hindi release on the 15th, Bombay Velvet should be able to take a good opening at the box office. The presence of Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar in the film will certainly help it reach out to a bigger audience than the niche fan base of Anurag Kashyap’s cinema. However, the presence of a song or two that are chartbuster material would have certainly help it draw in a bigger crowd and helped for the promotions as well.
