Akshay Kumar’s upcoming sci-fi action thriller Samuk is quietly expanding its ensemble, and we hear well-known Bengali actress Rukmini Maitr is currently in talks to join the project opposite the superstar.

According to sources close to the development, discussions are underway, and Maitr is being considered for a key part in the Kanishk Varma directorial, which is being produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under Sunshine Pictures and co-produced by Aashin A. Shah. The film, which is currently being shot in the UK, is being mounted on an ambitious scale and is said to blend science fiction with action and survival elements.
“Rukmini is definitely in the conversation for the film. It is an interesting role, and the makers were keen on someone who could bring both screen presence and intensity to it. Talks are currently on, and the team is working out the details,” reveals a source.

The source further adds, “Samuk has a very distinct world, and the casting is being approached carefully. The makers are putting together an ensemble that can complement Akshay while also bringing different energies to the story. Rukmini is an exciting addition if the discussions come through.”
The actress, who has established herself in Bengali cinema, would mark an interesting casting choice for the Hindi-language project. With the film’s principal shoot underway in the UK, the makers are said to be keeping details about the characters and storyline tightly under wraps.

Expected to blend sci-fi spectacle with visceral action and survival elements, Samuk is positioning itself as a major genre film from Indian cinema. The film is expected to release in 2027.
