Saif Ali Khan showed us a new side to himself altogether with his last big-screen outing, Laal Kaptaan. Though the film did not get the expected commercial success, Saif’s character and acting chops got rave reviews. And now, the actor is set to surprise us yet again as Udhaybhan Rathod in the upcoming period drama, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior.
And now, spilling the beans on his villainous character, Saif feels that Udhaybhan is an insanely wicked character. Someone like the Joker from the Batman series! Detailing furthermore, the Sacred Games actor said, “Udaybhan is insanely wicked. He is like Joker from the Batman movies. He is a great warrior, and is smart, but he is also unhinged because of the episodes that have happened to him in the past. The idea was to show the character as crazy yet lucid.”
Defying the concept that actors who need more takes aren’t very good actors really, Saif said that he took make takes before giving the final shot. He also said that the complex and dramatic antagonist of this Om Raut film did not come naturally to him.
Speaking to Mid-Day in the same interview, the Nawab further said, “I didn’t know how to dramatize the situation, so I had to adopt a different approach. We used to do a lot of takes. We come from a culture of filmmaking where [it is believed that] actors who need too many takes are making mistakes. But truth is that a role like this cannot be [perfected] in the first take itself.”
Directed by Om Raut, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior features Ajay Devgn in the titular role. The film also stars Kajol and Sharad Kelkar in pivotal roles. Tanhaji is slated to release on the 10th of Jan 2020.
