Last Thursday, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor passed away and left the Bollywood industry with a void. The actor was cremated at Marine Lines in presence of close family and friends including Neetu Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Abhishek Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan amongst others. Due to the lockdown, a lot of fraternity members couldn’t be a part of the last rites. Now, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan is opening up all about his best friend’s demise.
The Krrish director in a recent interview opened up about their inseparable bond along with actor Jeetendra being a part of the clan. Opening up about how they met just before the lockdown, Rakesh Roshan further revealed about the moment he heard of Rishi Kapoor’s demise and broke down.
In a conversation with mid-day, Rakesh Roshan shared, “(In 2018), our cancer diagnosis came months apart — his in August, and mine in December. But we both fought with a smile on our face. He was always brave and full of life. When I met him in March before the lockdown, Chintu, Neetu and I reminisced about our good old days.”
He further opened up about the time he called Ranbir Kapoor to inquire if everything is alright soon after the news of Rishi Kapoor passing away broke out. “I spoke to Neetu earlier this week when I learnt he was hospitalised and prayed for his speedy recovery. I woke up this morning to a message from a friend, asking if Rishi Kapoor was all right. When I called Dabboo [Randhir Kapoor], his number was busy. That’s when my heart sank and I instinctively knew something was wrong. Then I rang up Ranbir who shared the news. It was so shocking that I started crying on the phone. Instead of me consoling him, Ranbir comforted me. He has been a pillar of strength to his father,” added Rakesh Roshan.
