Kushal Punjabi committed suicide recently and the whole TV and film industry is in a state of shock. A lot of his celebrity friends and Bollywood stars who he had worked with took to their social media pages to offer their respects and express their emotions.
The Mumbai Police reportedly found a suicide note at Kushal’s residence, where he killed himself by hanging on the ceiling fan. In his suicide note, he mentioned that no one is responsible for his step and has distributed his property between his parents and 3-year-old son.
A lot of actors have been talking about how sorry they are for not being able to see Kushal Punjabi’s condition and failed to be a good friend. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Rohit Roy also spoke about Kushal’s demise.
Rohit Roy said, “In today’s age of beautifully packaged human beings, we spend lakhs to fortify our bodies but take our minds for granted. We treat a simple viral with medication but smile through mental ailments.”
The actor added, “Sadly, in India, people, especially actors, refuse to seek help because some believe seeing a psychiatrist is frowned upon. People suffering from depression refuse to take medication or go to a therapist saying ‘pagal thodi hun main’, and in the process alienate themselves and become more and more lonely.”
Rohit Roy further urged people battling with depression or any other mental issues to reach out and not to wait for it to pass. He said people should seek counselling, talk to their family members and friends as mental health issues are nothing to be embarrassed about. The actor also wants the government to open more help centres which are accessible easily to people.
The actor concluded, ” If there is a movement to eradicate Polio, why can’t we launch something similar to reach out to people suffering from mental illness and those in need of help?!”
Kushal Punjabi’s last rites were held in Mumbai recently and it was attended by his family members and several TV stars.
