Deepika Padukone made a bold move when she gave her nod for Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, based on real-life acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal. However, things did not go as anticipated, when the movie faced backlash for DP’s JNU visit leading to several people boycotting the film.
Furthermore, the limited screen count given due to Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior storm turned another obstacle. Now, owing to it all, is the actress being super careful about getting into that zone again?
Pradeep Sarkar along with Vasant Thakkar is currently working on the biopic of Bindoni Dasi, famously known as Nati Bindoni. For the unversed, she was a Bengali courtesan who later turned into a theatre actress, back from the 19th century. Her performances and craze over Kolkata stage is worth the tale being told, and that’s exactly what the makers are up to. However, Deepika who was first approached for the project, gave her nod to read the script but has now turned down the project.
A source close to Bollywood Hungama gave an insight as “The makers met Deepika a couple of months ago to give her a story narration. She liked the story and agreed to read the script. But then she got busy with Chhapaak promotions and kept them hanging in limbo saying that she would get back to them. Finally, her team reverted after more than a month saying that she couldn’t do the movie as she wanted to do light-hearted subjects and not heavy or serious movies, which would consume her emotionally.”
It is now being said that the project has landed in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s kitty, who has given her nod already. The paperwork is yet to be done, and there’ll be an announcement soon post that.
