Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Thalaivi is one of the most talked-about films currently. The actress recently revealed the first look of Jayalalithaa’s on-screen character and has been garnering a lot of appreciation for the same. But it looks like the filmmakers have landed themselves in a legal coup as Madras court has allowed Jayalalithaa’s niece J Deepa to sue the makers.

It was very recent when the news broke that J Deepa raised an objection to filmmakers making films and web shows on Tamil Nadu’s Cheif Minister and her aunt Jayalalithaa’s life. Deepa had moved to the Madras High Court to appeal that neither the upcoming film nor the web series makers have got the due permissions from her. The court has now permitted Jayalalithaa’s niece to sue these makers.

Jaya’s niece will now take legal action against Kangana Ranaut’s film Thalaivi and its director AL Vijay and producer Vishnu. A notice will be sent to Gautham Menon as well who is planning to make a web series on the life of Jayalalithaa.

Earlier is was stated that Deepa doesn’t want to stop the making of the film or the web series but just wants to ensure that the script is honest. She has, hence, demanded the makers to submit the entire script to her before the film goes on the floors. Reportedly, Deepa is just seeking some form of guarantee from both filmmakers and wants the court to take care that the scripts don’t misinterpret Jayalalithaa’s biopic. She asserted that she is the legal heir of the late politician and that the makers of the film should have contacted her before starting the work on a film or show.

Deepa said that the makers of Kangana’s film have no legal rights to make a film on Jayalalithaa’s life. She feared that it may affect her aunt’s and her family’s privacy. Earlier Jayalalithaa’s nephew Deepak Jayakumar expressed his displeasure regarding the making of the web series titled Queen. He issued a statement, claiming Gautham did not take approval from Jayalalithaa’s family before filming the series on her.

Meanwhile, the film which is produced by Vishnu Induri and Shaailesh R Singh is slated to release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on June 26, 2020
