Kalki 2898 AD is reported to be the most expensive Indian film ever made. Starring Prabhas in the lead, the epic science-fiction dystopian film is mounted on a whopping budget of 600 crores. The film marks the first collaboration between Nag Ashwin and Prabhas. Filming began in July 2021 after a delay due to the Covid pandemic. The production is yet to be completed as the shooting was divided into several schedules for three long years till 2024.

We had previously reported to you that the Kalki 2898 AD makers were demanding a staggering sum of 200 crores for the South Indian rights of the film. If the deal works out, the film will recover almost 33% of its massive budget.

Adding cherry on top is the massive demand for Hindi rights on digital platforms. As per a recent report by Gets Cinema on X/ Twitter, Kalki 2898 AD is selling those OTT rights at a cost of 175 crores.
The total money made via digital rights adds upto 375 crores. If this news is true, Prabhas starrer has recovered almost 63% of its budget. The film is expected to cross the 1000 crore mark at the box office, so one can only imagine the profits the makers will reap!

The epic sci-fi is directed by Nag Ashwin. Apart from Prabhas, the film also stars Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in key roles. Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Rajendra Prasad, Pasupathy, Saswata Chatterjee, Anna Ben, and Rana Daggubati will also play pivotal characters.
Kalki 2898 AD is reportedly scheduled to be released on 9th May 2024. There have been reports that the film may be postponed due to pending post-production work but there’s been no official announcement regarding that.
Are the makers yet to finalize the release date?
As most know, the Lok Sabha election dates for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have recently been announced. The first phase will begin in April, while the last and final phase will wrap around June 4. Prabhas and the team are worried that their film may get sandwiched and have been contemplating postponing it to July or August. Only time will tell what the makers have finally decided!
