Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak is just two days away from its release and the film has made the loudest buzz possible. The film that is based on the life of Laxmi Agarwal is directed by Meghna Gulzar. Recently when asked if she has taken any liberties in making the film, here is what the director had to say.
For the unversed, Laxmi Agarwal is an acid attack survivor. Laxmi was attacked when she was 15 years old by a 32-year-old man named Nadeem Khan because she denied his advances. The film will have Deepika play the central character and Vikrant has Laxmi’s husband Alok Dixit.
While we have seen Meghna’s last work Raazi and her eye for detail is commendable, she was recently asked about her cinematic liberties in Chhapaak. The director in an interview with Bollywood life said, “Not at all. When you are making a film on a real-life incident and if you want to take creative liberties, then make fiction. You can’t distort the facts. As far as this case is concerned, there is no distortion of facts at all. Yes, we may have played with the narrative in terms of the timeline and maybe not gone chronologically, maybe shuffled a few instances up and down, but, none of the facts has been distorted.”
If Meghna is to be believed, Deepika and Vikrant were in her mind to play the characters since the film was incepted. Further, when she was asked if Deepika was also cast thinking about a vast due to her star power, She said, “No, it is just an added benefit.”
Chhapaak is also Deepika’s first film as a producer and the film is set to hit the big screens on January 10.
