Sheer Qorma actress Swara Bhasker is well known for raising her opinions bluntly, whether it’s through social media or public interactions. She has openly spoken against the policies of the Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when she used to campaign for Kanhaiya Kumar during the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. From time to time, Swara Bhasker has also taken potshots at right-wing political outfits. Yesterday, during an event, the actress revealed how being politically vocal took a toll on her professional life and made her lose so many ad campaigns.
Swara was speaking at the poster launch of her upcoming movie Sheer Qorma at Indian Film Project. She revealed that due to her campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections 2019 for Kanhaiya Kumar and Atishi Marlena, she lost out on four brand endorsements and some events.
“I lost four brands the day I campaigned for candidates for Lok Sabha election, lost three events. The hit that my work took at the end of that experience,” she said.
She also said that there’s always a risk if you are voicing your opinions in the society. “I am not saying, ‘Oh! I am so great,’ but if you’re going to make the stakes so high, that a superstar can talk about a dinner conversation and then face so much flak or another superstar can give his opinion and his car can be stoned on a shoot, then how can we expect people with legacies or public profiles to actually risk their lives, families, careers? Why should they? We need to ask ourselves questions as a society,” she added.
Talking about her film Sheer Qorma, it is expected to chronicle the struggles of the LGBTQIA community. Swara and Divya Dutta play lovers, whereas, Shabana Azmi will essay the role of Divya’s mother in the film.
