A lot has been spoken about the casting of Tushar Hiranandani’s Saand Ki Aankh which revolves around the lives of India’s oldest octogenarian shooters, Chandro and Prakshi Tomar. The duo, who is fondly called Shooter Dadi’s are played by Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar, who in real life are half the age of Tomar sisters.

While many industry insiders like Neena Gupta and Soni Razdan called out to the makers saying that is only fair for makers to gives actresses a chance to play characters of their age, the debate sparked after Kangana Ranaut’s sister, Rangoli Chandel lashed out at the makers and producer Anurag Kashyap.

Bhumi Pednekar Lashes Out At Those Questioning Her Choice Of Saand Ki Aankh.
Bhumi Pednekar On Criticism For Playing An Oldster In Saand Ki Aankh: “You Cannot Question Our Choice”

And now addressing all the critics, Bhumi Pednekar has been quoted by Bombay Times saying, “My perspective is I’m completely in sync with Taapsee. I feel as actors, it’s our choice to do a project or not, you cannot question our choice. Yes, there is a dearth of roles written for women irrespective of their age. And there is a dearth of good roles written for women at a certain age. We agree with that. But by the end of it, it is a director’s prerogative. And I don’t see there’s anything wrong in casting an actor who doesn’t physically fit a certain role because if that was the case, then you are completely opposing what the basic definition of being an actor is and then Taapsee and I would not land up with a lot of the roles that we are doing now.”

Earlier, Taapsee Pannu had voice a similar opinion taking to her Twitter account that reads:

Directed by Tushar Hiranandani and produced by Anurag Kashyap, Saand Ki Aankh featuring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar is all set to release on the 25th October 2019.
