Patna and Indian Railways become the backdrop for this light hearted thriller on ticketing scam. Waiting hai centres around the core idea of online Tatkal ticket booking and the multi crore scam involved in it.

Central to the plot are Sugam Mishra (Divyendu)- a fresh recruit in the RPF- and Afroz Hamza- a socially awkward computer genius and the mastermind of the tatkal scam. Their stories run parallelly in the series. How Sugam unearths the plot and finally nabs Afroz is the crux of the story. Along the way Sugam opens a can of worms of corruption that runs wide and deep involving the police, higher officials, goondas and the politicians.

5 Reasons To Watch Waiting Hai

1. A Fresh Take On The Tatkal Scam

The story about a scam around tatkal ticket booking is fresh and hitherto not attempted. And setting the story in modern day Patna gives it a new perspective. Since the story is set against the backdrop of Indian railways we get a glimpse of railway life and the people running it- the RPF, the ticketing agents, touts, the officials and others. The freshness of the locations and the cast create an unusual experience. We get to experience a slice of Bihar and its social fabric.

2. Blend Of Humor, Suspense & Drama In One Package

The plot is about a multi-crore tatkal scam involving a gamut of people- right from the authorities to the local goondas and touts. Yet the tone is not dark or gritty. There is a balance of humour and emotions with a pinch of suspense thrown in. The action sequences also have an element of quirkiness. The makers have taken a light hearted approach to the treatment. The series pushes the pedal at the end and culminates into a thrilling cat and mouse chase- villains chasing villains, police chasing villains, touts and higher officials. The end has a heady mix of kicks and thrills.

3. Bhuvan Arora & Divyendu‘s Layered Performance

Divyendu is nuanced and endearing as the simple and self righteous RPF officer. His character starts as a simpleton trying to make sense of the giant system he’s thrown into. But his character arc peaks as the series progresses- he shines in portions heavy on emotions, throwing in his intensity and maturity.

Bhuvan is controlled and intense as the socially awkward nerd. His dead pan act is effortless save for instances where the poet in him awakens- he charms you as the criminal mastermind cum poet.

4. A Strong Supporting With Impactful Performance

The secondary cast has also pitched in a noteworthy performance. There’s an interesting mix of characters belonging to different social stratas and hierarchy. A few standout performances- Kumud Mishra (Tripathi ji), Harsheeta Gaur (Princy), Vijay Maurya (Mama) and Sunitha Rajwar (Sugam’s mother). Their controlled performance and genuineness of their character sketches adds gravitas to the story. They have nailed the Bihari nuances correctly.

5. An Authentic Portrayal Of Bihar

It’s refreshing to see the Biharis getting a genuine depiction. The Bihari diction and the social settings of the characters have been well researched and presented correctly in the series- right down to the costumes and production design. It’s a welcome departure from the flawed and stereotypical depiction of Bollywood movies. But there is also a good dose of genuine Bihari quirkiness- it’s unmissable.
