It’s going to be an out-and-out Yami Gautam show this Dussehra. And no, she is not going to play a Devi but a Daayan! That’s right, she plays an unusual bahu whose sarvagun sampanna behavior puts her under the spotlight of doubt. The film Nayyi Navelli has released its trailer, and while it introduces Yami as a Daayan, she may not truly be that. Whatever she may be playing, this trailer sure has blockbuster written all over it.

Yami Gautam, who recently bagged the National Award for Best Actress, has been experimenting with unique stories and roles in recent years. Audiences have now come to expect something engaging from the actress. For her upcoming film, the actress jumps into a chaotic fantasy family comedy-drama. Master storytellers Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma, alongside Amazon MGM Studios, back the film, while Balaji Mohan directs it. The trailer promises an absolute blast for the Dussehra season.
The Nayyi Navelli narrative unfolds in a small town in Northern India, where Yami Gautam is welcomed into a household as the new daughter-in-law. Her husband’s role is played by Adinath Kothare. She impresses her in-laws with her flawless skills at homekeeping and her charming looks. However, there is one family member who refuses to believe that she is normal.

“Itna sarvagun sampanna koi kaise ho sakta hai?,” he questions when Yami’s character does everything to perfection. Since to be flawed is human, the doubting family member is convinced that she is a witch and starts to announce this to his family members. In the trailer, we also see Yami Gautam give her character and reveal herself as a witch.
We then get to see her talking and fighting Raavan. The festival of Dussehra is celebrated as the defeat of Raavan at the hands of Lord Rama and his army. It is practically the win of good over evil.
Towards the end of the trailer, we hear a voice ask Yami Gautam who she truly is. To this, Yami simply smirks and says, “Woh sab chhodo mummu ji, aap sirf maze lo”.
A Unique Plot
And true to her words, the trailer of Nayyi Navelli promises to have oodles of fun and chaos. The film is an integration of myth, fantasy and folk tales from our childhood. Raavan is associated with the Ramayana, and the only person to defeat him was Lord Rama himself. It is interesting how the makers have innovated with the characters and brought in a new angle.
While the trailer has established that Yami Gautam is indeed a Daayan in the film, we cannot wait to see what new elements will be further introduced in the movie. But for that, we will have to wait until October 16 to experience this on the big screen. If the teaser is anything to go by, this quirky, high-concept entertainer has all the ingredients to become Yami Gautam Dhar‘s next big box-office winner!
