When Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt announced their production venture, Eternal Sunshine Productions, expectations were naturally set high. We expected fresh, out-of-the-box, content-driven storytelling. However, with the freshly dropped trailer of their upcoming college romance Don’t Be Shy, the sister duo seems to have taken a major detour into heavily recycled, exhausted teen drama territory!

What was supposed to be a vibrant, relatable Gen-Z coming-of-age story feels like a derivative, Indianized mix of Mindy Kaling’s Never Have I Ever, and a few more high school rom-coms, and honestly, it is easily the slowest, most tiring trailer glimpse we have witnessed so far in 2026!

The High School Crush & Status Dilemma – What An Overused Plot!

The trailer introduces us to an awkward, nerdy teenage protagonist who struggles to fit into an elite urban school/college. She has the quintessential best-friend duo, a secret crush, and a persistent internal dilemma about her insecurities and identity.

From forced Gen-Z slang and exaggerated family dynamics to the predictable misunderstanding tropes, Don’t Be Shy checks off every single box on the teen-romance cliche list. Instead of offering a grounded or authentic look at modern Indian youth culture, the narrative leans into glossy caricatures that feel completely artificial and annoying to be honest!

The biggest setback of the trailer is its lethargic edit – so much so that it is a snoozefest! For a youth-centric comedy-drama, the timing falls flat, and the drama seems to be out of place in most of the scenes, be it bragging about her social status or relationship status!

While the newcomer cast tries their best to bring enthusiasm to the screen, the dialogue feel very off. Rather than feeling like a fresh voice in modern youth cinema, Don’t Be Shy comes across as an unwanted, delayed adaptation of a lot of stories starting from Never Have I Ever!

I hope that Don’t Be Shy might not be that bad, and it is just the trailer edit that did not land but right not it does not look convincing at all! It is majorly disappointing! Unless the full movie hides a massive, surprising emotional core!
