Last year, when Marvel Cinematic Universe announced its Phase 4 which included films like Black Widow, Thor: Love and Thunder and others. There are also Disney+ series like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, WandaVision and others. All these projects created a lot of excitement among fans all over the world.
If there wouldn’t have been a health crisis in the world currently, soon MCU fans would’ve got to watch the first film of Phase 4 – Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. A few days ago, Marvel announced the new schedule and release dates for all its Phase 4 films. With this, it is breaking the tradition the universe has been following for years, reports Screenrant. For 10 years, Marvel films have dominated the superhero genre with some amazing films. Every year, fans get to watch at least 2 films superhero films. That’s not going to be same now.
In 2020, MCU has only one film releasing – Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. The Eternals, which was supposed to release this year itself is now postponed to 2021. In the past, this has only happened twice – in 2010 when Iron Man 2 released and in 2012 when The Avengers 4 release. But this is a completely new Phase which was about to begin and fans will have to wait longer to be introduced to it.
Apart from this, MCU is known for introducing a new franchise every year. But in 2022, that won’t be happening as the films releasing that year are Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2. Only in 2021, there will be new superheroes with the film The Eternals and Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings. So 2022 will have no new franchise as we saw in the past year.
The third tradition Marvel isn’t following with Phase 4 is there are no team-ups of different Avengers. The earlier 3 Phases known as Infinity Saga saw the Avengers teaming up together in films like The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and lastly, Avengers: Endgame. However, Phase 4 has no such big team-up; except for WandaVision being a part of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
It would be interesting to see how the films in MCU’s Phase 4 are and if they go to become as big as the earlier films.
