The 96th Academy Award, the most significant award night, is approaching. The fans are waiting with bated breaths to see who wins the night’s biggest honors. Christopher Nolan directed Oppenheimer, one of the frontrunners in achieving the most awards on the ceremonious night. What are your predictions about how many trophies it will bring home?

What is Oppenheimer about?

It is a biographical thriller film about the father of the atomic bomb, J Robert Oppenheimer, and his role in the Manhattan Project during World War II. It is based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin. Cillian Murphy appeared in the titular role, while Robert Downey Jr appeared as Lewis Strauss, one of the prime opposing forces in the movie.

The ensemble cast of Oppenheimer comprise Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh. It is at #86 on IMDb’s list of top-rated films. It has been nominated in thirteen categories at the Oscars 2024, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Adapted Screenplay, and more.

Which movies have won a record number of Oscars?

Oppenheimer has many hopes pinned on it. The films Titanic, Ben Hur, and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King have the most number of Oscars and, with eleven. Reportedly, there are 15 films with eight or more Oscars in the history of Academy Awards. 2008’s Slumdog Millionaire is the last movie to have won eight Academy Awards, followed by last year’s Everything Everywhere All At Once with seven wins.

Will Oppenheimer break any of the records above?

It seems unlikely to cross Titanic, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and Ben Hur’s record wins. According to Forbes, the forum GoldDerby has predicted that the 2023 blockbuster may win eight of the thirteen nominations. If that happens, then it will tie with Slumdog Millionaire’s numbers. That, too, will be a fantastic feat in the last 15 years.

According to journalist Scott Menzel’s prediction on Twitter, Oppenheimer is expected to win four to six trophies at the Oscars in 2024.

Which nominations might evade Oppenheimer?

There is a high chance that Oppenheimer would win the major trophies, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Picture, screenplay, and Director, but Emily Blunt might lose the Best Supporting Actress honor to someone else, and the most bets are on The Holdovers’ Da’Vine Joy Randolph. She has taken home all the awards this year, including the BAFTA and the Golden Globes. There is also no nomination in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Do you think Oppenheimer will create history at the Oscars in 2024?

The 96th Academy Award will take place on Sunday, March 10.
