Once a public figure, you’re always under the radar. Every step is literally judged by the viewers. Brad Pitt, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry – all of these are celebrities who enjoy a massive fan base. The actors in the past years have had their share of criticism from a section. But the worst happened when they were banned from China! Below is the scoop you need.
For the unversed, Brad was a part of Seven Years in Tibet. The war drama was based on a 1952 biographical book by the same name. It showcased Pitt in the role of an Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer. However, the critics weren’t very favourable. The actor was also nominated for ‘Stinkers Bad Movie Award for Most Annoying Fake Accent.’
People’s Republic of China was disappointed with Brad Pitt over political reasons. More so, because Seven Years In Tibet showcased 14th Dalai Lama in the positive light. On the other hand, Chinese military officers were seen in the negative light. Owing to the same, not only Brad but David Thewlis and director Jean-Jacques Annaud were banned in China.
A similar scenario took place with Rare Beauty owner, Selena Gomez. In 2014, a picture of the singer with Dalai Lama went viral on the internet. It left the Chinese govt. furious who ended up blocking her tours in their country as well. Sel even had multiple concerts in the country around that time but had to remove it all from her website.
Apart from Brad Pitt and Selena Gomez, Katy Perry has been banned too. In 2015, the Fireworks singer was seen wearing a Taiwanese flag during one of her concerts. Katy was scheduled to perform at Victoria’s Secret Fashion show next week in Shanghai. Perry was initially granted a visa, but after the controversial concert, they changed their mind.
It is said that Katy Perry has been banned ‘indefinitely’ from China. Brad Pitt’s ban seems to have been temporary, as he later visited the country a couple of times.
