The Odyssey crosses the $600 million milestone at the North American box office

The mythological epic collected a solid $7.4 million on its 9th three-day weekend at the box office in North America. It has an insane hold at the domestic box office for a few days, and it has beaten Spider-Man: Brand New Day to occupy the #1 spot. But over the weekend, it dropped to #3. The film declined by just 43% from last weekend.

The Odyssey matches Finding Nemo’s 59-day streak of staying above $1 million in North America, the 6th-longest ever. According to Box Office Mojo, the Christopher Nolan-helmed film crossed the $600 million milestone in North America despite losing 329 theaters on Friday. Its current domestic total stands at $600.5 million cume. It is the 18th film in history to cross the $600 million milestone domestically.

Rocking debut in Japan!

The movie has finally debuted in Japan, and it landed at #1, beating The Dark Knight‘s opening in the region. It reportedly collected $4.2 million in its opening weekend in Japan, nearly on par with Tenet’s $4.4 million debut. The Odyssey is below Inception’s $8.9 million and The Dark Knight Rises’ $5.7 million.

It is more than Interstellar’s $1.6 million, Oppenheimer‘s $2.5 million, Dunkirk‘s $3 million, and The Dark Knight’s $3.1 million. It has achieved strong word-of-mouth, with a 4.4-star rating from the audience, the highest in Nolan’s career. The Odyssey was released worldwide on July 17.
