After delivering two back-to-back money spinners in the form of Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons, Suriya is ready to set the Indian box office on fire yet again with his much-awaited film, Scene. It releases in theaters tomorrow (November 6), and the buzz is strong on the ground. Going by the advance booking response and perception around the film, it is aiming for the Kollywood star’s career-best opening in India. Keep reading for a detailed report!

Enjoying good pre-release buzz

With Karuppu, the Kollywood star ended his dry spell at the box office, and now, there’s genuine interest in his next. In the pre-release stage, it generated hype through its promotional assets. It marks the debut of director Jithu Madhavan in Kollywood. Since Jithu is returning to direction after the blockbuster success of Aavesham, there’s an element of excitement attached to the film. Also, Suriya returning in a cop avatar has left his fans excited.

Solid response in advance bookings

The positivity around Scene is also being reflected through advance bookings. As we write, it has grossed close to 9 crore (excluding blocked seats) at the Indian box office through day 1 pre-sales, and with some hours still to go before the release, the final number will be above 10 crore. This clearly indicates an urgency among moviegoers.

Scene targeting Suriya’s biggest opening in India

Given the genuine hype and advance booking response, Scene is aiming for a big start at the Indian box office. The 20 crore net mark looks within reach, as it is expected to enjoy good response through walk-ins. With a start of 20 crore net or more, it’ll overtake Suriya’s second-biggest opener of all time, Retro (19.25 crore net).

In fact, the Tamil entertainer is also expected to beat Kanguva (24 crore net) to become Suriya’s biggest opener ever. In the case of Kanguva, there was a lot of negativity, while for this film, things are looking good. So, there’s a strong chance of overtaking Kanguva with the help of good over-the-counter ticket sales.
