Rajkummar Rao is a national treasure when it comes to courtroom dramas! From claiming a National Award for his first courtroom drama, Shahid, to his latest offering, Prahaar, the actor has proved his worth in the genre. His latest film, produced by Maddock Films, presents the life of Ujjwal Nikam, the public prosecutor who made sure Ajmal Kasab was hanged till death!

Prahaar Box Office Day 1

On the opening day, October 16, Friday, Prahaar earned 2.5 crore at the box office. This means that the film has surpassed the entire 3-day opening weekend of Shahid in a single day! Interestingly, Shahid, which brought a National Award for Rajkummar Rao, was released exactly 13 years ago!

Hansal Mehta’s gritty courtroom drama Shahid was released on October 18, 2012, and back then, the film opened to a modest 45 lakh on Day 1 and closed its entire opening weekend at 2.05 crore. Fast forward to today, Rajkummar Rao’s latest hard-hitting outing has completely shattered the opening day numbers of his first courtroom drama!

Allocated across 4,133 shows in India on Day 1, Prahaar maintained a decent 13% overall occupancy. Word-of-mouth has been particularly strong in urban centers where audiences have praised Rao’s intense courtroom sequences and gripping narrative pacing. However, the film is facing a battle with Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli!

With a 2.50 crore opening, the film might have earned a decent opening but missed to enter the top 10 openings of Rajkummar Rao‘s career! With favorable weekend trends ahead, Prahaar is locked in for a steady theatrical run.
