Back in the day, official remakes of Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri were highly successful, and to date, they receive love from the audience. So, in today’s story, we’ll be revisiting the box office run of remakes that were led by Thalapathy Vijay and Salman Khan.

About Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri

This 2006 Tollywood action thriller, helmed by Puri Jagannadh, received mostly positive reviews from critics and was a massive hit at the Indian box office. Over the years, it became a cult classic in Mahesh Babu’s filmography. It is learned that this Tollywood biggie was remade in Tamil, Hindi, and Kannada.

Thalapathy Vijay’s remake

Just after one year of Pokiri’s release, this official Tamil remake hit theatres in 2007. It received mixed to positive reviews from critics. Helmed by Prabhudeva, this action entertainer fared well among the ticket-buying audience and was loved for its commercial elements. At the Indian box office, it amassed 42.95 crore gross and was declared a highly successful affair.

Salman Khan’s remake

Two years after Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri was released, Prabhudeva came with the Hindi remake, which presented Salman Khan in a massy avatar. Upon its release in 2009, the Bollywood action entertainer received mostly positive reviews from critics. It performed better than expected and was a big comeback for Salman.

With positive word-of-mouth all around, Wanted grossed around 83.20 crores at the Indian box office and was declared a commercial success.

Reportedly, Thalapathy Vijay’s Pokkiri was made on a budget of 20 crores, and it earned 42.95 crore gross. If calculated, it enjoyed returns of 22.95 crores or 114.75%. On the other hand, Salman Khan’s Wanted earned 83.20 crore gross against a cost of 52 crores. So, it enjoyed returns of 31.20 crores or 60%.

So, in terms of returns, Thalapathy Vijay’s remake had an edge over Salman’s remake.
