Released with minimal expectations, the film has shattered all the pre-existing records at the box office and has left behind the previous biggest Mollywood hit by a huge margin. As the survival thriller is still enjoying a smooth ride in its theatrical run, let’s talk about the important records it has created so far.
Small budget, big returns
The Malayalam film industry is known for its unique concepts and highly superlative content. What makes it stand out more is that Mollywood releases are always built on a controlled budget, which reduces the chances of big losses. The latest and greatest example is the Chidambaram directorial, which is reportedly carrying a budget of just 20 crores. Against this cost, the film has already made over 400% returns at the Indian box office.

Entered the 100 crores net club: A few days back, Manjummel Boys made a smashing entry into the 100 crores net club, and many won’t be aware that it’s the first film from the Malayalam film industry to cross the 100 crore net collection in India. Tovino Thomas’ 2018 could have achieved this feat, but it ended the journey with 93 crores net.

Crossed the 200 crore mark globally: Apart from crossing the 100 crore net collection in India, this survival thriller also made a smashing entry into the 200 crore gross club at the worldwide box office, thus becoming the first Malayalam film in history to achieve the feat. In the process, it also surpassed 2018 (181 crores gross) to become the highest-grossing Mollywood film.
A milestone in North America: Recently, Manjummel Boys crossed the mark of $1.5 million at the North American box office, thus becoming the first Malayalam film to achieve the feat. Interestingly, before this, none of the Malayalam films have even touched the mark of $1 million.
Conquers the overseas market: As per the latest update, Manjummel Boys has amassed 70 crores gross in overseas. With this, it has become the highest-grossing Malayalam film in overseas. It surpassed 2018’s 69.50 crores.
