The Tamil film industry saw an interesting box office clash this week. Karthi’s Sardar 2 and Soori’s Mandaadi were released in theaters on the same day. While Sardar 2 was released amid much hype owing to the franchise goodwill, Mandaadi entered the race quite late. While Mandaadi’s date was locked, it wasn’t viewed as a major competition. However, that changed once the film’s trailer was released. The audience was impressed by the visuals of the sea-based drama, which generated a good buzz for the film. And now, Mandaadi is miles ahead of Sardar 2.
How Much Did It Sardar 2 and Mandaadi Earn In 3 Days?
On its third day 3, Sardar 2 earned just 2.2 crore. The spy action film has been on a decline since its release on Thursday. The film had a decent opening of 4.5 crore net in India but witnessed a 45% drop on its day 2. The film has also lost nearly 900 shows in India in just 3 days. The net total of the film now stands at 9.15 crore, which equals 10.8 crore gross. Overseas, the performance has been dismal. The film has only grossed 3.5 crore. This brings the worldwide total to 14.3 crore gross.
Coming to Mandaadi, the film earned a whopping 10 crore on day 3, surpassing Sardar 2’s 3-day total. The Soori starrer’s net total now stands at 21.55 crore, which equals 25.43 crore gross. Overseas, the film has grossed 5 crore, bringing the worldwide total to 30.43 crore.

Mandaadi Storms Ahead of Sardar 2
On its first Saturday alone, Mandaadi earned 354.55% more than Sardar 2. At this point, there is no competition between the two films. Mandaadi is the clear winner, chosen by the audience over Sardar 2. Despite having a franchise advantage, Karthi’s film could not sustain solid numbers during its opening weekend either. If we compare the first 3 days of both films, Mandaadi is 135% ahead of Sardar 2 in net collections in India alone. It seems like Sardar 2 will be shown the exit soon, with Mandaadi outperforming and coming on track to become one of the biggest Tamil films of the year.
