Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-hyped and long-awaited Khalifa has failed the Monday test. The film was released in theaters on August 20 as part of the Onam release. The film enjoyed a solo release after Dulquer Salmaan’s I’m Game postponed its release date. However, from day 2 onwards, it faced competition from Nivin Pauly’s Onam release, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit. The latter swept the family audience with strong word-of-mouth. On the other hand, Khalifa received mixed reviews from both the audience and critics.

How Much Did Khalifa Earn At The Box Office In 5 Days?

The film had a great start, opening at 5.35 crore net in India against 1967 shows. From day 2, the number of shows for the film dropped, and so did its collection. On day 2, the film saw a 55% drop, which was not a good sign. The film collected only a little over 2 crore each on days 3 and 4. On Monday, the film earned 0.83 crore. This was a 65% drop from its first Friday collection and a 60% drop from its Sunday collection. The fil has failed the first Monay test.

On the other hand, Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has been registering excellent numbers at the box office. On its first Monday, the film earned 6.9 crore, a 40% increase over its opening-day collection of 4.9 crore. The Nivin Pauly-starrer has become the clear winner at the box office for this Onam.

Day-wise Box Office Collection Of Khalifa

  • Day 1: 5.35 crore
  • Day 2: 2.4 crore
  • Day 3: 2.05 crore
  • Day 4: 2.1 crore
  • Say 5: 0.83 crore

Total: 12. 73 crore

After two back-to-back box office failures, Khalifa was pegged to be Prithviraj Sukumaran’s box office comeback. However, Khalifa seems to be joining the ranks of Vilayath Budha and I, Nobody, and heading for a box-office disappointment. The film is reportedly made on a budget of over 50 crore. At this pace, it is unlikely that the film will recoup its investment.
