With close to half a dozen films coming together, it was pretty much on the cards that it would be the survival of the fittest. As a result, it was only Fugly which managed to score with other films like Chal Bhaag, Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai and Unforgettable seeing forgettable collections. In fact, even the combined collections of these films struggled to come close to the 1 crore mark, which tells the tale.
In that perspective, Fugly, a Kabir Sadanand directed film, managed to have a 9.50 crore weekend for itself. That’s decent, considering the fact that Akshay Kumar as the producer and Jimmy Sheirgill as the villain were the only notable name attached to the film, what with its star cast being entirely new. The reviews were mixed though and growth over the weekend being limited as well. Still, due to low costs involved, Fugly should eventually turn out to be a plus outing.
As expected, the biggest competition for Fugly came in the form of Akshay’s own Holiday which had another good weekend. Around 19.5 crore more came in as a result of which the film’s total reads as 87.5 crore. The film should hit the 100 crore mark by its third weekend or even before that.
