Talking about audiences’ reactions from Thursday screenings, word-of-mouth is extremely positive and calling it a sure-shot blockbuster.
Beginning of the box office rampage!
As per the report in Deadline, Dune 2 has marked a fantastic start in North American theatres. As per early estimates, the film earned an impressive $10+ million through Thursday previews, which started at 3 pm. It is to be noted that the sum includes $2 million that was accumulated from the IMAX fan event held in February.

Talking about the previews’ collection, this number is said to be the highest since the theatrical phenomena of Barbenheimer (a clash between Barbie and Oppenheimer). Breaking down the previews of Barbenheimer, the Margot Robbie starrer had raked in $22.3 million through its Thursday previews. Oppenheimer had earned $10.5 million through previews.
Last year’s Five Nights at Freddy’s had enjoyed Thursday previews worth $10.3 million despite its simultaneous release in theatres as well as on the Peacock streaming service. Dune 2 is expected to topple it when the actual figure comes out.
Dune 2’s opening weekend projection
As per pre-release projection, Dune 2 is expected to rake in $85-$90 million at the North American box office during the opening weekend. If that happens, it will easily surpass Oppenheimer’s $82.4 million. Considering the positive response and anticipation on the ground level, trade experts still believe that this projected start is on the cards.
Talking about the pre-sales status, Dune 2 has amassed around $18 million in advance, and the majority of it is contributed by premium formats.
