Two distinct films release this Friday – Happy Bhag Jayegi and Un-Indian. Coincidentally, both deal with marriage, have a premise of cross-cultural romance and are light hearted entertainers. Happy Bhag Jayegi is about an Indian runaway bride [Diana Penty] who finds herself in Pakistan with a charming young man [Abhay Deol]. On the other hand Un-Indian is about an Indian woman [Tannishtha Chatterjee] who brings home a groom from Australia [Bret Lee].

Between the two, Happy Bhag Jayegi would get a decent size release, courtesy the names Eros and Aanand L. Rai associated with it. The team has collaborated on films like Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Raanjhanaa, both of which have been ‘desi’ in treatment. It is no different for Happy Bhag Jayegi which has the duo backing it up for director Mudassar Aziz. The promo has a nice likeness factor to it and the songs are decent. That said, the push that one expected en route release hasn’t been massive enough, and one of the major reasons for that is the clash of Rustom and Mohenjo Daro that saw all the attention.

With Rustom still running very strong, it would all boil down to word of mouth for Happy Bhag Jayegi, which has Jimmy Sheirgill, Abhay Deol and Ali Fazal joining Diana in her journey. As for Un-Indian, it is a delayed release and would find just a select shows in some multiplexes of the country. It has a very difficult road ahead of it since there is near to negligible buzz for the film due to hardly any promotion that preceded its arrival.
