Phew! What’s happening? As many as six films releasing this weekend. These are Koyelaanchal, Hawaa Hawaai, Mastram, Yeh Hai Bakrapur, Khwaab and Manjunath. All of this is happening on the Friday prior to the one when election results would be announced. Still, one wonders whether it was a good enough decision to arrive together when a later release for at least three to four films (staggered over 2-3 weeks) would have been much more beneficial. Thankfully, Kochadaiiyaan has moved to 23rd May, otherwise it would have only added on to the mayhem at the box office.
Nevertheless, with number of movies arriving together, it would be futile to even expect a great start for any of these. In fact, the first milestone for these films would be to fetch good enough screen space and show timings for themselves. Hawaa Hawaai comes from Fox and though it won’t have a humungous show count for itself, its targeted release at chosen theater chain and right show timing should fetch it good visibility at the multiplexes. Koyelaanchal, with its massy theme and presentation, would have a much stronger reach at the single screens and is special due to Suniel Shetty and Vinod Khanna coming together.
As for the other four releases of the week, Mastram, Yeh Hai Bakrapur, Khwaab and Manjunath, they may just have to contend with two to three shows a day at major multiplexes.
With number of films arriving together, all would eventually boil down to word of mouth and critical acclaim helping the cause.
