Of the recent times, Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express recorded the widest release that has ever happened for a Bollywood film. However, actor Ranbir Kapoor, who has been on a spree to fit well into the shoes of the reigning Superstars of Bollywood has beaten King Khan’s prevailing record of the biggest release garnered by a Bollywood film.

Chennai Express had released in 3500 screens in India and more than 700 screens in overseas markets. But reports from insiders suggested that Ranbir Kapoor’s Besharam will see a wider release than Chennai Express by claiming for itself nearly 3600 screens in the domestic market.

Besharam, that is directed by Abhinav Kashyap, the director of Salman Khan starrer magnanimously popular flick Dabangg is a full blown commercial film that will be distributed by Reliance Entertainment which was hell bent on getting their film the biggest release in Bollywood’s history. Earlier the company had aimed on getting 4000 screens for itself, however, after the film gathered shorter screens from South India due to the strong buzz for Telugu film Attarintiki Daredi, the production house settled for 3600 screens.

Being a formulaic entertainer of sorts, the film is also Ranbir’s first tryst with a wholly-commercial role that is very different from any of the characters he has essayed ever. Since Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani escalated the craze among audiences for this charming, young superstar; the higher number of screens increases the chances of Besharam performing well at the domestic box office. There are several reasons why the higher screen count will be beneficial for the venture, foremost being that Besharam might also cut the dry spell at the box office post films like John Day, Prague, Horror Story and Warning – because of which the box office hasn’t seen an overtly shattering response from any of the recent releases.

The film’s advance bookings will start tomorrow and since the film has the perfect commercial ingredients – a budding superstar and a director who has a good idea of interesting contemporary commercial cinema, along with the highest screen acquisition ever registered by a Bollywood flick, chances of Besharam’s success simply escalated the expectations of trade insiders!
