Sunny Deol’s recent release, Batwara 1947, has had a slower start than expected at the box office. The partition drama, which was released over the Independence Day weekend, was expected to make a splash at the box office. However, the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial saw a poor response at the box office and also lost the clash to Emraan Hashmi’s nostalgia-driven film Awarapan 2. However, amid this, Preity Zinta, who made her comeback, is all set to lose out on a major box-office milestone.
How Much Did Batwara 1947 earn in 14 days at the box office?
On its second Thursday, the film earned 0.03 crore, which was a major dip for a fil starring Sunny Deol in the lead. Even more concerning is that the film lost 95% of its shows to Toxic from Wednesday. The sharp decline in cinema counts indicates a lack of demand for the Sunny Deol-starrer in the country. Meanwhile, Toxic’s Hindi version has taken the country by storm with its strong box-office performance.
The net total of Batwara 1947 currently stands at 37.8 crore, which equals 44.6 crore gross in India. Overseas, the film has collected just 9.05 crore so far, which brings the worldwide total to 53.65 crore.

Preity Zinta To Miss 100 Crore Milestone
The actress made a solid comeback to the big screen with the film. She plays Sunny Deol’s wife in the film, which also stars Shabana Azmi. While a 100-crore Bollywood film may not seem like a big milestone today, it is for Preity Zinta. In her career spanning over 20 years, she has yet to be a part of the prestigious club. Batwara 1947 was expected to be her first 100 crore film.
Currently, the 51-year-old’s highest-grossing film is Koi… Mil Gaya, which co-stars Hrithik Roshan. The film was a massive hit and earned 46.96 crore net at the domestic box office in 2003. At the current pace, Batwara 1947 may not surpass Koi…Mil Gaya’s lifetime collection as well.
