The 2000-2009 decade gave the Bollywood industry a huge push when it comes to theatrical business. It all started with Sunny Deol’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2001 breaking the historic record of Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994). The film clashed with Aamir Khan’s Lagaan which was also a huge hit and still managed to become the All-Time Highest Grosser till that time.
Then in 2006, Gadar’s record was broken by Dhoom 2 as it became the first Bollywood film to cross 80 crores mark.
Then in 2008, Shah Rukh Khan’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi crossed Dhoom 2 and in the same year, Aamir Khan’s Ghajini crossed RNBDJ to become Bollywood’s first 100 crores grosser. In the very next year, Aamir Khan set a new benchmark of 200 crores with his 3 Idiots.
So in a decade, Bollywood didn’t just cross the HAHK record, it took a huge leap in business as well. Have a look at the Top 10 Bollywood grossers of 2000-2009 decade.
