The fact that Karan Johar is Alia Bhatt’s godfather is no secret at all! Ever since he launched the star kid with his 2012 Student Of The Year, he has been a constant guiding star of her professional and personal life too! But in a shocking turn of events, KJo says that he feels he has not done justice to Alia’s talent at all!
Yes, you read that! The acclaimed filmmaker further went on to say that he in fact feels that Student of the Year does not even pass as Alia’s debut film, but it should be Imtiaz Ali’s Highway that should be touted as Bhatt’s debut. Explaining his reasons behind the statement, Karan has said, “She wasn’t used for her talent at all. In many ways, her emotional launch is Student of the Year but her real professional launch is Imtiaz Ali’s Highway. The way he nurtured her as an actor, the way he put her out there is something I didn’t do at all. I always spotted that there was something about her but I didn’t use her talent at all. I actually don’t feel I full-fledged ever directed Alia the way I would like to do.”
Karan has further said that despite collaborating with Alia on several films, he is still on a lookout for that one film that he and the Raazi actress can both be known for. While people have high expectations from Alia in Karan’s magnum opus Takht, Karan says that he needs to collaborate with Bhatt on a film where she will be the only point of focus and not in an ensemble cast.
Concluding his interview with Rajeev Masand, KJo said, “Even Takht is an ensemble, she has a solid part in a way that she is extremely beautiful. It is one of my favourite tracks in the film but I still feel believe she and I have a film to make. A film that we can be known for. I haven’t really leveraged this whole lot of talent that we know.”
