Bollywood despite shedding all its inhibitions is till date not very cool about the idea of on screen kissing or any overt on screen physical or sexual activity as such. SRK and Salman Khan have maintained the record of refraining from performing kissing scenes with their lead ladies on screen. But Jab Tak Hai Jaan saw a remarkable change in Shah Rukh Khan’s earlier ‘no kissing on screen’ approach, as he was seen lip locking with Katrina Kaif in the film. This time SRK has not shied away from a quintessential kissing scene in the film which elaborates the passion and love of the lead pair of the film.
The scene was officially Shah Rukh Khan’s first on screen lip lock after Maya Memsaab (About 19 Years Back) and hence has catapulted the actor into Bollywood’s lip lock club. Bollywood kisses are indigenous in its way and are unique in their own original charming kind of way. As kissing scenes are becoming more accepted in film, KoiMoi brings you a detailed report of Bollywood’s most sensuous and breathtaking kisses, rating them on a scale of one to five based on the couple’s chemistry and the passion quotient of the scene.
Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif in Jab Tak Hai Jaan
When SRK signed a film he had two basic conditions – no kissing on screen and no horse riding, but when Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan came along for him, he did decide to bend his long standing rules for once. The breathtaking lip lock between Samar and Meera is one of the most breathtaking moments of the film which justifies the climax as well.
KoiMoi rates the kiss 3 on 5 because in all its perfection, the kiss lacked a certain lustrous chemistry missing between Kaif and Khan which perhaps Kajol could have lent better.
Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
The film was compared to the Hollywood blockbuster flick Hangover and its Sequel and was expected to be a film which followed the footsteps of the Desi Super hit Dil Chahta Hai. The kiss sequence between the two is one of the longest in Bollywood which surpassed the famous Karisma Kapoor-Aamir Khan one in Raja Hindustani. In a very sensitively woven scene, after Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif bid goodbyes to each other, Katrina hits the road on her bike and stops Hrithik’s car and kisses him to express her love for him. The scene is very simplistic and has no added airs faking passion and yet it reveals to its audience the impulsive pull of love!
KoiMoi rates the kiss 4 on the scale of 5.
Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh in Band Baja Baarat
She played the focused, no nonsense, wedding planner and he, the good hearted, flirt. They become business partners and one night of drunken love making begins it all. Their kiss in the film was significant because they both play it so realistically, enthusiastically and passionately. There was not an inch that could have been better in the scene. Hence, when the film hit the screens, it was so appreciated because of their sizzling ‘I love you because I hate you’ kind of chemistry.
KoiMoi gives this perfect kiss a perfect 5 on 5.
Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor in Jab We Met
This intensively sweet romantic comedy had the sweetest climax when the vivacious chatterbox Geet realizes that all along she has been in love with guy who has stood beside her and not the one she has been fighting for. The climax saw Geet running towards Aditya and engulfing him in a happy, passionate lip lock.
KoiMoi rates this as one of best on screen kisses in Bollywood, especially its realism and impulsiveness makes it look even better. This one is definitely a 5 on 5.
Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in Kurbaan
The film was an overtly dark themed one, driving on the lines of international terrorism. The kiss between Saif and Kareena and the overtly rated love making scene bordered in synchronization with the theme of the film. In between passion and betrayal at the same time, the scene had its USPs as it was significant in proving how maturely Bollywood deals with coming out of closet sexually. The scene however had every reason to be called erotic and still it wasn’t charming in any way which became a disadvantage for the scene.
KoiMoi rates this kiss scene a 4 on 5.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2
Now there’s a golden on screen pair. One cannot miss the adhesive chemistry between the two and how wonderfully they enact it on screen. The kiss scene between Aishwarya and Hrithik was the most perfect one. A thief who doesn’t trust anyone, believes in working alone, kisses an absolute stranger of a partner, just established his faith and love in the person.
The picturization and chemistry is so perfect that KoiMoi rates it as a perfect 5 on 5 lip lock scene.
Emran Hashmi and Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture
This was one of Bollywood’s most iconic films in recent years. Based on the real life of South Indian star Silk Smitha, this film was definitely one of Balan’s finest performances and not to mention fiery as well. The kiss scene between Emran and Vidya is unique, despite Emran’s kissing spree in Bollywood. Vidya adds to the scene a loving and artistic touch. It was sensuous keeping in mind the plot, your heart goes out to Vidya.
KoiMoi rates this scene as a 3 on 5.
Karisma Kapoor and Aamir Khan in Raja Hindustani
Who has forgotten this wonderful scene from the film? The chemistry of two brilliant actors coming together on screen was the finest blend of work. The rainy set up and the passionate lip lock is the longest and perhaps the most artistically inclined kiss of Bollywood ever. It lends to their onscreen romance, a much demanded culmination. The scene is very well acted out. It was lip smacking and sensuous, to say the least.
KoiMoi rates this, a perfect 5 on 5.
Madhuri Dixit and Vinod Khanna in Dayavaan
The scene between Madhuri and a much older Vinod Khanna did not look odd from any angle. Their kiss was beautiful and mesmerizing and a very beautiful sequence between the two. The scene is one of Madhuri’s boldest avtaar on screen.
KoiMoi rates this, a 5 on 5. Perfection personified scene.
Kamal Hassan and Rani Mukherjee in Hey Raam.
Set amidst political anarchy and chaos, the brief scene between a young Rani and a much older Kamal Hassan is a brilliant scene which beautifully raises the ongoing passion and turmoil in the film.
KoiMoi rates this as a 4 on 5.
