Looks like the Kolaveri Di effect hasn’t worn out just yet. Dhanush and Mallika Sherawat were voted as the Hottest Vegetarian Celebrities of 2011 by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The south Indian star and Jalebi Bai beat other popular vegetarians like Kareena Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Amitabh Bachchan, Shahid Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Sonu Sood and Hema Malini.
“If I had to pick the very best thing about being vegan, it’s my clear conscience”, said Sherawat. The proud vegetarian Dhanush said, “Being a vegetarian always made me feel healthy. I’ve always felt light. Every time I sit down to eat, I’m helping the environment. Go PETA, go green.”
“The dozens of gorgeous celebrities in this year’s contest show how a vegetarian diet makes you beautiful inside and out”, says PETA India’s chief functionary, Poorva Joshipura. “There’s nothing sexier than someone who exudes passion and compassion – and our winners have plenty of both.” The winners were chosen by PETA India on the basis of the total number of votes each celebrity received, each celebrity’s potential to reach a large audience and PETA India’s assessment of each celebrity’s attractiveness.
