A few years ago, Aditya Dhar and Vicky Kaushal announced they would work together on a mythological superhero action film, The Immortal Ashwatthama. After the success of their 2019 film, Uri: The Surgical Strike, everyone was excited to see what the actor-director duo had planned for everyone. Vicky had even beefed up and underwent a physical transformation for the film. Sadly, the movie got shelved.

In the past two years, there have been many speculations about why The Immortal Ashwatthama got shelved. Neither the actor nor the director had said anything about it. Now, Aditya Dhar has finally revealed why they couldn’t proceed with the film. During the trailer launch of his upcoming movie Article 370, Dhar shared the real reason.

The Uri director revealed, “We have put that on the back burner right now. I’ll be honest, the kind of vision we all had for that, it was too big to work for Indian cinema. The kind of VFX quality we were looking at, nobody has even strived for it here. Until the technology becomes affordable or cinema halls increase, we’ll have to wait.”

The director further gave an example of how James Cameron waited for the market to grow to work with the kind of tech he wanted. Dhar said he’s not Cameron, but he can’t settle for mediocrity if he wants excellence. Even if it takes five years, he wants the movie to be brilliant.

Meanwhile, Aditya Dhar is the writer and producer of Article 370, which stars his wife, Yami Gautam and Priyamani in the lead roles. The Aditya Suhas Jambhale directorial is slated to release on February 23.

On the other hand, Vicky Kaushal has an exciting line-up of movies. The actor will collaborate with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the first time with Love & War. The film also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. He will be next seen in Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam and Chhaava movie. Vicky’s last release was Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur, for which he received a lot of praise for his performances. He also had a special role in Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki.
