Current WWE Intercontinental champion, AJ Styles has scratched and crawled right from the bottom to the top, with all the hard work, wrestling matches a day in day out at various venues across the world to reach where he is today. There’s no doubt that he deserves every bit of fame and popularity that he shares among WWE Universe. In his 4 years in WWE, he has had major feuds with numerous superstars including ‘The Big Dog’ Roman Reigns.
The duo shared bitter rivalry for the best part of 2016. In a recent interview with a leading international tabloid, AJ Styles stated that Roman Reigns comeback will only help WWE in terms of rating following the stardom which the former Universal Champion shares.
In an interview with SunSport AJ Styles said, “You can’t deny the fact that Roman Reigns is one of the biggest stars in WWE. He’s WWE. I mean, he’s the guy. so to get him back could be a big help.”
Talking about the rivalry which he shared with the ‘Big Dog’ in his(AJ Styles) first year in WWE, the Intercontinental champion stated that it proved to be quite fruitful in a huge way, and someway or the other it carved a path for him to reach where he is in his WWE career today.
As AJ Styles said, “You have this indie guy (himself) in 2016. This guy from Japan just walked right in there and step in the ring with Roman Reigns. Now the perfect scenario was in place because not everybody loved Roman. Now he is definitely one of the biggest stars but not everyone loved Roman then and so you have this indie darling, right? And it was like, oh, they made it easy for me to be in there with Roman because he is such a huge star.”
“It only got better from there when I had the opportunity to get in the ring with Roman, one of the pay per views, actually a couple of pay per views (2016 Pay Back & Extreme Rules) think. When I’ve got a title opportunity, it was against Roman Reigns. Unbelievable match. I’ve watched it back. Wow. I can’t believe we did all this stuff that was really good. So, yeah, Roman Reigns is a big part of the reason why my career’s where it’s at.” added AJ Styles.
It was also this year when AJ Styles headlined Wrestlemania 36, as he went one on one with ‘The Dead Man’ Undertaker in a boneyard match which the former lost.
Roman Reigns was scheduled to face Goldberg at Wrestlemania 36 in April for the Universal Championship, but the former opted out following personal reasons. From then, it’s been over three months since Roman has been out of action.
