Did Someone Happen to Mention Me? is a Japanese comedy-drama about fame and being remembered. Kōji Yakusho stars as the lead, Gen Takasegawa. All eight episodes arrived on Netflix on October 22, 2026.

Did Someone Happen To Mention Me?: Plot & Storyline

Gen Takasegawa was once a household name in Japan. After a cheating scandal he announces that the Gen Takasegawa the public knew is dead, and moves to London. After two years abroad, capped by a celebrated King Lear at Shakespeare’s Globe, he returns to Japan and finds that nobody remembers him. His wife and young son don’t recognize him, and his ex-wife Yoko, who runs his old agency, has never heard of him. The cause is traced to a pandemic vaccine whose side effect is memory loss. Broke and homeless, Gen takes odd jobs, starting with a sauna. He works alongside a young actor-playwright named Okamoto and slowly starts to rebuild a career from the bottom, with no one around who remembers why he mattered.

How Does Scandal Around Gen Get Resolved? What Happens In The Final Episode?

A reporter outside the sauna talks about the scandal around Gen. Okamoto sneaks him inside, and Yoko introduces him to Tabuchi, the man who filmed his London documentary and had forgotten it. Tabuchi’s footage proves Gen’s London performance. Okamoto asks Gen to perform in his play. Gen first refuses, but after reading the script he agrees.

It reenacts Gen’s whole journey, and Tabuchi’s documentary clips show interviews with Machiko, Chijimi and Gen’s family. It is a success, and afterward the audience cheers and takes photos with the cast.
