Even though the streaming platform showcased half the film through reels before its October 2 release, it is still worth your time to watch it together.
The Malayalam film stars Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju in the lead. The lead male actor rose to prominence in his acting career with some of the finest Malayalam romantic films. And with this film, he makes us nostalgic, with the talented Mamitha Baiju by his side. The film deals with age-gap romance beautifully without glorifying it.
Bethlehem Kudumba Unit Movie Review: Script Analysis
The film primarily centers around Justin (Nivin Pauly) and Ashley (Mamitha Baiju). Ashley reluctantly moves to a new town with her family and starts college there. In her new neighborhood, she meets Justin Chettan (Malayalam used for an elder man). Justin is a single man who is a go-to person for everyone in the neighborhood and has quite a loud personality. Ashley observes all this, and circumstances lead them to become friends. Ashley soon falls in love with Justin as well. However, Justin is not initially aware of it. He is made aware of it by his aunt.
What makes this film even more fantastic is its well-fleshed-out characters in the neighborhood. Even though Justin and Ashley are primary to the plot, it does not feel like they are the only people in the world. Justin’s younger brother, his friends, family, Ashley’s new friends, and a particular suitor make for interesting characters in the film.
What happens when Justin and Ashley’s romance unfolds is what makes the plot.

Nivin Pauly proved that he is back in form with his 2025 release, Sarvam Maya. With Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, he proves that he still dominates the feel-good rom-com space. The film has a core story, but Nivin’s performance sure did elevate its box office performance. Every time he blushes on screen, you, as an audience member, are bound to smile.
Mamitha Baiju has truly proven herself to be star material this year. She previously shone with Girish AD’s Premalu, and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit just further explores her acting range.
Roshan Shanavas and his Mysore pack give us a lifetime of memes and laughter. Sangeeth Pratap’s filmmaker act is so good that his film had to be dropped on YouTube.

Every department in the film has truly done a good job. Director Girish AD is known for slice-of-life comedy films like Super Sharanya, Thanneer Mathan Dinangal, and Premalu. Like his previous films, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit also has immense repeat value, with characters you fall in love with and will definitely discuss long after the film is over.
Age-gap romance can also be a tricky space, but what sets this apart is how the story gives the woman agency. Here, it is the woman who initiates a romantic relationship with someone 15-plus years older than her. There is quite an interesting scene pre-interval where she pours her heart out and counters the age-gap issue. It is one of the most adorable moments when a man and a woman begin their relationship after admitting their feelings for each other.
Music is an important element of the film and plays a crucial role in bringing the protagonists together. The protagonists’ musical tastes help bridge the age gap between them, and it is done beautifully. A big thumbs-up to the team for using the Malayalam song “Yavanakadhayil” from an unreleased 1990s movie.

At a time when violence has been the go-to genre to achieve blockbuster status, this Malayalam rom-com makes your heart feel all fuzzy while ensuring your jaws get the exercise as you laugh and smile through the film.
This is a film you can watch when you are low and just want something to cheer you up. Trust me, this one is a 10/10.
