1. Scope of This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to all personal information processed by Koimoi in connection with the Platform, including information collected before account registration (e.g., anonymous, cookie-scoped Watch/Skip votes) and information collected once You register for and use a Koimoi account.

We do not intentionally collect any special category of information (such as data about health, religion, caste, or sexual orientation) beyond what You voluntarily include in a review or comment.
3. Do We Process Sensitive Personal Data or Information (SPDI)?
Yes, to a limited extent. Your account password is classified as “Sensitive Personal Data or Information” under India’s Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011. We never store Your password in plain text — it is stored as a salted, one-way cryptographic hash, is never visible to Koimoi staff, and is never included in any email or export. Beyond passwords, We do not knowingly collect financial information, biometric data, health data, or government ID numbers.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To create and administer Your account, and to display Your public profile, watchlist, ratings, reviews, and lists as You configure them;
- To personalise recommendations (“Similar to this”, “Top Picks For You”) using a recommendation model trained on Your Watch/Skip votes, ratings, reviews, and stated OTT subscriptions;
- To detect when a title on Your watchlist becomes available on Your chosen OTT platforms and notify You;
- To send transactional communications and, where You have opted in, marketing communications;
- To maintain security, prevent fraud and vote/rating manipulation, and enforce the Community Guidelines in Our Terms of Use;
- To serve and measure advertising (see Section 6); and
- To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
We process Your personal information primarily on the basis of Your consent, given at registration and through in-product settings (e.g., enabling push notifications, selecting OTT subscriptions), and, for security/fraud-prevention and legal-compliance purposes, on the basis of Our legitimate interests and legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time as described in Section 9, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
6. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell Your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who process data on Our behalf, including Our hosting infrastructure (Kinsta) and security/CDN provider (Cloudflare); analytics providers (e.g., Google Analytics); push-notification and transactional-email vendor-OneSignal); and customer-support tools — all under contractual confidentiality obligations;
- Advertising partners: Koimoi is affiliated with Publisher First, Inc. dba Freestar for placing advertising on the Platform. Freestar and its partners may collect and use data (including, for logged-in users, non-sensitive profile and behavioural data) for ad targeting and measurement. - Social login providers, to the extent needed to authenticate You, if You choose to log in that way;
- Other users, for information You choose to make public — Your profile, reviews, ratings, lists, and forum comments;
- Government or law-enforcement authorities, where required by law or a valid legal process; and
- A successor entity, in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to that entity honouring this Policy or providing notice of any material change.
7. Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies
- Essential/session cookies — keep You logged in and remember basic preferences. These cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality.
- Analytics cookies — help Us understand usage (e.g., Google Analytics). Optional; You may opt out via the cookie banner or browser controls.
- Advertising cookies — used by Freestar and its partners to serve and measure ads. Optional; You may opt out via the cookie banner or industry opt-out tools (e.g., www.youronlinechoices.com).

8. Social Logins
If You choose to register or log in using a third-party social media account, We receive the profile information that provider makes available — typically Your name, email address, and profile picture, and, if You authorise it, Your friends list. We use this information only to create and personalise Your Koimoi account, and will not post to Your social account on Your behalf without separate authorisation. You can review or revoke Koimoi’s access at any time from that provider’s own account-permissions settings.
9. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, You have the right to:
- Access the personal information We hold about You;
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information (most fields are editable directly in Your account settings);
- Request erasure of Your account and associated personal information;
- Withdraw consent for optional processing (e.g., marketing emails, push notifications) at any time;
- Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on Your behalf in the event of Your death or incapacity; and
- Lodge a grievance with Our Grievance Officer (Section 14) or the Data Protection Board of India.
To exercise these rights, write to management@koimoi.com or use the in-app request tool where available. We will verify Your identity before acting on a request. Once Consent Manager infrastructure under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is operational, this section will be updated to reflect it.
10. Data Retention
- Account data (profile, watchlist, ratings, reviews, lists, follows) is retained for as long as Your account is active.
- On account deletion, personal information is deleted or irreversibly anonymised within 5 working days, except where We are required to retain it longer for legal, tax, or dispute-resolution purposes.
- Aggregated or anonymised interaction data (used to train recommendation models) may be retained after account deletion, as it no longer identifies You.
11. Data Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), salted password hashing, Cloudflare-based network protection, and access controls limiting who at Koimoi can view account data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; if a breach materially affecting Your personal information occurs, We will notify affected users and the appropriate authority without undue delay, as required by law.
12. Cross-Border Data Transfer
Some service providers (e.g., cloud hosting or analytics) may process data outside India. Where this occurs, We take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient provides a comparable standard of protection, consistent with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and applicable rules.
13. Children’s Privacy
The Platform is not directed at, and account registration is not available to, anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If We learn that a minor has registered an account, We will terminate it and delete the associated personal information. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided Us personal information may contact management@koimoi.com to request removal.

Complaints are acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 15 days, or such shorter period as applicable law requires.
15. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. There is currently no uniform industry standard for recognising and responding to DNT signals, so We do not currently respond to them. You can still control tracking through the cookie-consent banner and Your browser settings, as described in Section 7.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time; the “Last updated” date at the top will change accordingly, and material changes will be highlighted on the site or communicated to registered users before they take effect.
