While one waits to see the opulent love story that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has to offer with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh for Ram Leela, one romantic tale which is promising itself to be as real as it gets is Raanjhanaa.
“The film is about matter of hearts which is about the aam aadmi, by an ‘aam aadmi‘ and for the ‘aam aadmi‘. This is the way this Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush starrer love story, which has been extensively shot in Benaras, is being projected,” informs a source, “This is the way director Aanand L Rai thinks. He is hardly a filmy sorts and that’s the way he wanted the love story of Sonam and Dhanush to unfold as well. He has kept the film totally attached to the roots.”
One can well expect that considering the fact that his last filmTanu Weds Manu with Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut too had its USP lying in it’s simplicity. It was this core aspect that he wanted to bring in Raanjhanaa as well and fortunately for him his producer, the lady behind another simple film Chalo Dilli, was on board as well.
Says Krishika, “Dhanush is a brilliant actor and he looks like a common man. This is what that works for Aanand’s film. Also, Sonam was ready to work on herself to look and act like one, despite being hailed as a fashionista by one and all. She really believed in the story due to which she attended theatre groups and saw quite a few street plays. She worked on herself to go by what Aanand had envisioned for her. She turned into a girl who could indeed come from the interiors.”
On being asked about backing films like Raanjhanaa and Chalo Dilli which belonged to the heartland of India, Krishika said, “I like to work on those kind of films which are realistic, connect to the youth and are commercial enough to bring in audience. Raanjhanaa is one such film. It is very earthy.”
With the film’s First Look out, it is now the turn of audience to pass their verdict and announce if that is indeed the case.
