The original Tron was released in 1982 giving way into a new cinematic world. The sequel of the film titled, Tron: Legacy, was released almost ten years ago which was a more financial success than a critical one. In spite of it, Disney didn’t revive older franchises. However, promising reports of Tron 3 is floating since 2017.
Despite Tron: Legacy was released ten years ago, there’s a growing interest among the fans to see their favourite cinematic universe. Back in 2010, rumours of a film bringing back the characters from Legacy began to surface on the internet. However, unfortunately, the project was eventually scrapped.
After positive reviews of Blade Runner 2049 was reported, Jared Leto showed keen interest in the Third instalment of Tron. Now the actor has revealed that he will be starring in the franchise’s newest chapter on Instagram. Leto has not only confirmed his involvement in the film but also revealed some exciting things planned for the next film in the series.
Here’s what the actor had revealed on his Instagram post:
It seems Disney is finally making progress on Tron 3 and it comes at a time when Leto’s poised to potentially become a bigger player in the superhero world with his lead role in Morbius. With major commitments such as that of a potential director/star team in play, the tone of the new third instalment of Tron franchise will begin to take shape. Anyway, Leto’s involvement with Tron 3, both as a star and producer, seems to be another step towards the right direction for the project.
If previous reports were to be believed, we can expect that we might get the war between the human world and The Grid after all. But with the latest report, Disney scrapped the chances of a direct sequel, which means we might not be seeing this happen with most of the leads from Tron: Legacy.
