Recently, the Walt Disney Company announced that Mulan would release on Disney Plus. Since then, rumours of Tenet, Black Widow, and other such delayed movies releasing on digital platforms are grabbing headlines. While Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi thriller has already got a release date, it is not releasing everywhere in the world.
All of this delay in movie releases happened due to coronavirus pandemic since March. The pandemic not only affected the releases, but also led to the stopping of shoots of all movies and shows. But the audience is truly eager to watch Nolan’s next.
So is Tenet also releasing on the digital platform? WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar has addressed the issues now. In an interview with Variety, Kilar shared what is going to be the fate of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming thriller.
WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar told Variety, “I don’t have any comment on that specifically. I think with Tenet we should judge this based on our decision-making on Tenet, which is: We believe in the theatrical business.”
He added, “We’re excited to partner with Chris Nolan to get Tenet out in theatres first and foremost. And then, of course, it will be in another formats, in other venues, that are not theatrical. But I think, if you look at our behaviour, we’re believers in the theatrical experience and are also of course in very close communication with everyone in the exhibition industry, about the topic of windows and about how we can collectively serve consumers in the best way possible going forward…So I know it’s a pretty provocative topic, and I get that and it’s very understandable. But at the end of the day, I’m excited about it, and I’m leaning into it.”
Talking about the movie’s release, it has 3 different dates. In 70 countries, it will hit the screens on August 26. In the US and China, it will release on September 3 and 4, respectively. There is no release date out for India yet.
Tenet is a time inversion thriller that stars John David Washington in the lead role. It has a spectacular supporting cast of Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki and Dimple Kapadia.
