The horror movie has been recording franchise-best numbers at the box office. It collected $4.5 million at the domestic box office on its first Wednesday, recording the 5th-biggest Wednesday of all time for R-rated horrors. It declined by 35.2% from its first discounted Tuesday. It is also the 5th biggest Wednesday ever for video-game adaptations. It has thus hit the $76.9 million cume in just 6 days.
Resident Evil surpasses the OG Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat is also a video game adaptation that was released in theaters in 1995. It is the first film in the Mortal Kombat film series. Mortal Kombat is also the second-highest-grossing film in the franchise. According to Box Office Mojo, the 1995 movie collected $70.4 million in its lifetime.
